is it only me? i keep having "flash backs" in my mind of early web "pages". you know, the ones that used to say things like: "HI!! This is my web page! I work at..." etc.. very basic stuff about people's lives.. Isn't foaf and the such, simply a sophistication of such early web notions?

how did you find those early pages? Are you taking into account: Identity browsing, auto-discovery, meta-data and social network in general?

I remember these early "pages" as a symbol of people not being sure how to use publish on the web.
Now, I am not attempting to imply that foaf etc is the same. I pointed this out as an interesting notion of usage. As in faof seems to be some sort of embodiment for such early web publisher's notions. It feels like a certain full circle in that sense. Yet as such circles often do, it might mean a new opening..

I sort of see your point. It's not a return to what there was before. But there is a return to some of the same problems ... how I describe myself? How do people find me? etc.

And it's a chance to do things differently and avoid some of the "mistakes" of last time around.
