I wonder if anyone can give me a 101 introduction to the role/relationship of drupal and PeopleAggregator. I saw Marc's post saying "we will port peopleaggregator to Drupal as we speak", which sounds like peopleaggregator is something can plug in to Drupal. A little confused.

Thanks,
Seyong

Moreover, PeopleAggregator claims that it can build a social network portal. This seems to be the same thing Drupal is claiming to do. Are they competitors? or if PeopleAggregator is a package tailored for social network with Drupal as the core, they are sharing the same code base?

see the following post,

User-centric identity enables you to be the master of your online digital identity. Once you have that control, the tables turn and instead of giving other sites your data (which can rapidly become obsolete) you instead give them permission to access certain parts of your personally maintained data. As long as you give them access to e.g. your email address, any time that you change it (in just one place) all the sites that have "subscribed" to your email address will get updated. Further, as you build depth as (say) LinkedIn and later want to bring some of your "reputation" over to Tribe, it's as easy as giving them the right to view whatever portions of your "profile" you choose. And in case you're wondering, there are some simple procedures, a developing set of "identity rights agreements" (similar in concept to the Creative Commons copyrights) and some fancy mathematical proofs that enable you to protect your privacy and security while doing all this - far better than it is protected now by all those sites storing it "for you"."

My understanding is that CivicSpace is a package with Drupal as the core that is tailored for social network. But I am a little confused by the following statement, which seems to claim that PeopleAggregator is another CivicSpace to Drupal, i.e., PeopleAggregator is a package tailored for social network with Drupal as the core.

"Social Networking is clearly a major area within today's Web 2.0 environment. Ourmedia.org and the upcoming PeopleAggregator will expand Drupal's capabilities of handling relationships, groups, 'identity browsing' and bring together a comprehensive suite of modules - for social networking in Drupal. The "Social Networking" session will cover the functionality and usefulness of this code."
